Having worked with Radiohead since 1994 and has collaborated with Robert Macfarlane to produce a new collection of Hardy’s poems, published by the Folio Society.

Event Description

Tuesday 17th May – Tuesday 7th June 10.30am – 5pm

Stanley Donwood has worked with Radiohead since 1994 and has collaborated with Robert Macfarlane to produce a new collection of Hardy’s poems, published by the Folio Society. Stanley has explored Hardy’s Wessex and created sketches and images on pages from old books, envelopes and maps, responding to Hardy’s layering of the present and past and the birds which link Hardy’s world and ours.

With thanks to Stanley Donwood, Robert Macfarlane, the Folio Society, Jealous Gallery, Wessex Museums and Dorset Art Weeks.

Sawfish are also called carpenter sharks...but they are rays, not sharks!

There’s also a species called a sawshark, but that’s, well, a shark!

What the heck is a lek?

Males great bustards perform spectacular courtship displays, gathering at a ‘lek’ or small display ground to try to impress the females.

Road Runner!

The great bustard has a dignified slow walk but tends to run when disturbed, rather than fly.

Belly Buster!

The hen-bird on display at The Salisbury Museum was one of the last great bustards to be eaten in the town!
