Join us in a unique live event to debate whether science alone has the solutions to address the climate emergency. Drawing together scientific expertise and powerful youth voices, we will discuss the power of protest and how a belief in change can make a better future for all become reality.
Wessex Museums has enrolled three inspirational speakers for this event, chaired by our Wessex Engagement Lead, Dr Anjana Khatwa:
The event is a precursor to the launch of our partnership digital climate change exhibition, My World, My Future, which goes live at the end of the month. (The poster above is a sneak preview of work young people did at Poole Museum for the exhibition!)

Joe Brindle – climate activist
Joe Brindle is a 19-year-old climate activist from Wiltshire. He’s currently in his first year at the University of Sheffield, during his gap year he worked as a campaigner on the Teach the Future campaign for climate education which he founded in 2019. In this role, he’s met with MPs, written articles for national newspapers and been interviewed on TV. Joe also does web design and development for not-for-profit organisations. Emma Lewins – SOS-UK
Emma is a project manager for SOS-UK (Students Organising for Sustainability). She engages staff and students in sustainability projects, including Green Impact, Student Switch Off and Homes Fit For Study. She also leads on social media. Emma studied Geography at Royal Holloway University, where she became passionate about climate justice and started volunteering for the UK Youth Climate Coalition. Emma also studied for a Masters in Migration and Mobility Studies at the University of Bristol, specialising in climate-induced displacement.
Crystal Moore – Environment Agency
Crystal Moore is a climate, resilience and risk specialist. She’s worked for over 30 years on topics as diverse as pharmaceuticals in the environment, planning incident response for the London 2012 Olympics, flood forecasting and artificial intelligence. Recently she supported Sir Patrick Vallance as an extra executive in his Department working with SAGE and the Covid-19 scientific response. Passionate about the better comprehension of science, Crystal loves making and taking opportunities to learn and refine this craft, supporting better decisions to be made.
Males great bustards perform spectacular courtship displays, gathering at a ‘lek’ or small display ground to try to impress the females.
The great bustard has a dignified slow walk but tends to run when disturbed, rather than fly.
The hen-bird on display at The Salisbury Museum was one of the last great bustards to be eaten in the town!
