Kristina is new Wessex Museums CEO

Kristina Broughton has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Wessex Museums.

Previously Partnership Manager, and part of the organisation since 2015, Kristina is ideally placed to take forward our current National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status until 2026.

This comes at an exciting time for the partnership as we welcome the three Swindon Museums – Lydiard House Museum, STEAM – the Museum of the Great Western Railway and Swindon Museum & Art Gallery. They have joined our original partners, Dorset Museum, Poole Museum, Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum.

Gill Donnell, Chair of the Wessex Museums Trust board, said:

“We are thrilled to appoint Kristina as our new CEO. Her drive and inspiration will be vital to continue to develop our thriving collaboration, which includes leading the Trust in its new role as an independent charity.”

Wessex Museums’ purpose is to build the resilience and relevance of our partner museums and across the region, supporting them to connect, inspire and add value to people’s lives.

Sawfish are also called carpenter sharks...but they are rays, not sharks!

There’s also a species called a sawshark, but that’s, well, a shark!

What the heck is a lek?

Males great bustards perform spectacular courtship displays, gathering at a ‘lek’ or small display ground to try to impress the females.

Road Runner!

The great bustard has a dignified slow walk but tends to run when disturbed, rather than fly.

Belly Buster!

The hen-bird on display at The Salisbury Museum was one of the last great bustards to be eaten in the town!
