Plastics are not fantastic!

Students from Weymouth College were inspired by COP26  to create a series of posters raising awareness of the ongoing climate emergency. The college offered to let Dorset Museum display their artworks as part of our climate change project.

The students used a variety of creative styles and different media, including illustration, printmaking and collage. In particular, they focused on the dumping of plastics in the ocean, deforestation, the extinction of rare species, rising sea levels and most importantly, the pressing need to take preventive action before it becomes too late.

The poster above is You are the Voice of the Ocean, a group artwork by students on the Next Steps Independent Living course. A selection of  posters by individual students is displayed below.

Please tell us what you think of this exhibition by completing our short survey.

Sawfish are also called carpenter sharks...but they are rays, not sharks!

There’s also a species called a sawshark, but that’s, well, a shark!

What the heck is a lek?

Males great bustards perform spectacular courtship displays, gathering at a ‘lek’ or small display ground to try to impress the females.

Road Runner!

The great bustard has a dignified slow walk but tends to run when disturbed, rather than fly.

Belly Buster!

The hen-bird on display at The Salisbury Museum was one of the last great bustards to be eaten in the town!
