The Blood Stone

It was the snails that showed the way – and the twins who found the snails message were chosen to send the Blood Stone back to where the Dark Wizard Foulweather couldn’t get it. Chased by unholy hounds, they found a way into the hill. Down they went until they discovered an ancient coffin. On the coffin lid was a gap – and the bloodstone fitted perfectly! But that woke the dragon in the hill. The walls of the chamber shuddered and shook … The twins were afraid they’d never find their way out. But a spell song appeared on the wall and, as they sang, a golden door opened and they found themselves back on the hill in the eye of a storm – and their father was riding across the hill to rescue them!

Sawfish are also called carpenter sharks...but they are rays, not sharks!

There’s also a species called a sawshark, but that’s, well, a shark!

What the heck is a lek?

Males great bustards perform spectacular courtship displays, gathering at a ‘lek’ or small display ground to try to impress the females.

Road Runner!

The great bustard has a dignified slow walk but tends to run when disturbed, rather than fly.

Belly Buster!

The hen-bird on display at The Salisbury Museum was one of the last great bustards to be eaten in the town!
