What the heck is a lek?
Males great bustards perform spectacular courtship displays, gathering at a ‘lek’ or small display ground to try to impress the females.
During the first lockdown, we were lucky to have four students from Bath Spa University working on virtual placements across our partnership.
The projects were the final assessments for the Heritage Management MA students, and replaced physical placements that had been cancelled because of Covid-19. Despite working remotely, the students showed amazing dedication and initiative, as well as passion for the projects.

The great bustard has a dignified slow walk but tends to run when disturbed, rather than fly.
The hen-bird on display at The Salisbury Museum was one of the last great bustards to be eaten in the town!
